Units of work

Band A

CC 1.2 God gathers Christians to worship Him This unit will be taught to students in their first year of school. Students will have a wide range of prior experiences with church buildings, with some attending a local church regularly, and some with absolutely no understanding of the function of a church. It is expected that the students will follow their interests in regards to how they demonstrate their thinking, using forms such as building, drawing, and writing to express their growing understandings.

  • CC 2.1 The Bible, a very special book
  • This unit draws on a wide range of resources as students explore what exactly the Bible is, and whether it is an important book. Students inquire into the nature of the Bible as a book, its structure, the stories about God's people, and his plan to send a Saviour into the world. They consider the question of its importance for Christians and set about investigating this through interviews and research.

CC 2.2 2.3 God gathers a community of Christians The unit of work demonstrates one approach that can be taken with Level 2 students and the merging of two Christian Church key ideas: The Christian community is shaped by and shapes its cultural and historical contexts, and, Christians pray, worship and celebrate the sacraments.

  • CC 2.2 What is Church?
  • A Pre-Primary unit looking at the question "What is Church?' This unit considers the idea that Christian communities are like families, sharing, loving and caring for one another.

  • CC 2.2 What is the Church?
  • In this unit students explore the two meanings of church as a building and as a community of believers.

  • CC2.3 My relationship with God
  •  Students explore the concepts of Prayer, Christian worship and celebrations in a variety of ways.

    Band B

  • CC 3.3 What, who, why, when, where and how in worship?
  • The questions what, who, why, when, where and how drive this inquiry unit on worship for Year 5.

    Band C

    CC4.1 Jesus was a rebel
We need to understand the culture to understand the significance of the story and how that links to today.

  • CC 4.2 The Church today reflects the past
  • The unit of work demonstrates one approach that can be taken with Year 6 students and the Christian Church key idea: the Christian community is shaped by its cultural and historical contexts.
