Sharing memories

August 24, 2023

Catherine Court is on the market with proceeds from the sale to be invested to ensure the legacy of Catherine Court lives on.

Do you feel a close connection to Catherine Court? LEA’s Director of Leadership, Suzanne Jessen, shares her fond memories:

In the heart of North Adelaide, nestled among the trees and the historic buildings, there existed a vibrant Christian community where students from all walks of life came together.

This community was more than just a collection of individuals; it was a tapestry woven with threads of faith, fellowship, and shared values.

Catherine Court was so much more than a place to live while studying at what was then known as Lutheran Teachers College. For those who to resided within its walls, life in this Christian community was an experience like no other. Laughter flowed freely as popcorn sizzled on the stove and friendships blossomed over cups of freshly poured coffee.

As a community we shared in spirited debates about theology, ethics, the mysteries of life, and the latest developments on Days of Our Lives. Our shared meals at the refectory – and who could forget those ham steaks at Sunday lunch – were times of laughter and happiness.

As graduation approached, there was a bittersweet feeling in the air. Women who had spent years within the embrace of this Christian community were preparing to spread their wings and embark on new journeys. But the friendships forged, the lessons learned, practical jokes performed, and the spirit of faith and community would forever remain imprinted on our hearts.

In the end, life at Catherine Court was more than a chapter in our lives. It was a transformative narrative, a story of growth, camaraderie, and the pursuit of a shared higher purpose. And as each of us stepped beyond its doors, we carried with us not just a diploma, but a legacy of love, unity, and the indelible mark of a community that had shaped our lives.
