We are seeking expressions of interest from principals, deputies and heads of sub-schools to mentor our new cohort of LDP participants.
Mentor Training
You will be provided with training through QUT to develop and enhance your mentoring skills. Before formal training begins you will have a 90-minute orientation to the mentoring process from QUT via Zoom. Training will be run concurrently with the initial LDP Intensive on 3 and 4 July in Adelaide. You will also meet your mentee at this time. There will be a further one day workshop in Melbourne on Friday 23 February 2024. Ongoing support for mentors will be provided through engagement in an Action Learning Group, a 90-minute online link up with Dr Cathy See from QUT each term over the two-year period. In addition, there will be a dedicated QUT monitored community engagement site for LDP mentors. Once you have undertaken this initial training you will only be required to participate in updates for future LDP iterations. All costs for travel, accommodation and most meals for the training program will be covered by LEA.
Selection of Mentors
Mentors will be asked to submit an online expression of interest by 20 April, 2023. To help match you with your mentee you will be asked to provide some information about yourself, particularly related to your work in education. We will be looking for mentors who have a passion for supporting future leaders in Lutheran education, who understand the leadership capabilities in Growing Deep and who have experience in formal leadership roles in schools or ECSs. Mentees will have access to this information and will be asked to select three mentors they believe are well suited to their needs. The LDP management group will use this information to pair mentors and mentees. We are also open to pairing mentors and mentees from different regions so that we can provide the best possible match. After the initial meeting in Adelaide, and now that we have become more accustomed to working online, much of the mentor and mentee interaction can occur online, overcoming the tyranny of distance.
The Leadership Circle
All of the LDP participants will complete The Leadership Circle (TLC), a 360-degree profiling tool. Mentors are also invited to complete TLC, but it will need to be at your own cost ($2000). Your school may support you in this as it is a valuable learning experience, but it is optional. Completion of TLC will in no way impact on your selection as a mentor. If you are interested in TLC, please tick the appropriate box on your EOI. If you are unsure at the time of submitting your EOI please let us know. We will need confirmation by early May if you wish to go ahead.
Accreditation of the Mentoring Program
Participation as a mentor may contribute to a further post graduate qualification if an assessment task is completed in addition to full participation in the program. This may incur extra costs if you wish to take this pathway.
For further information please contact suzanne.jessen@lutheran.qld.edu.au. You can register your interest by completing this online expression of interest. Expressions of interest close 20 April 2023.
